MADAWAN PLACE

Madawan Management and Development Inc. (MMDI) is pleased to introduce its’ first new development of 28 rental apartment units at 1043 Cummings Avenue in Ottawa, Ontario.  MMDI is a sister company to Gignul Non-Profit Housing Corporation, established to develop affordable non-profit rental housing specifically for Aboriginal people. The 1043 Cummings Avenue apartment building is intended to assist Aboriginal families and individuals of moderate income by providing housing at below market rental (BMR) rates for the area.

THE CUMMINGS AVENUE COMMUNITY:
The building is ideally located near other residential developments, schools, transportation, major highways, St. Laurent Shopping Centre and green space.

 

INCOME AND RENT STRUCTURE: 

Rent is based on 80% of the market rent as set out by Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation

All Tenants are responsible for paying for utilities (heat & hydro)

Tenant insurance is mandatory

Monthly parking fee is extra

The City of Ottawa is providing rent supplement funding for 9 units.

Income Limits for eligibility include the following:

1 bedroom    Lower Income Limit: $27,418                Higher Income Limit: $71,000

2 bedroom                                  $31,416                                                $76,000

3 bedroom                                  $36,322                                                $81,000

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 
The applicant must self-declare as Aboriginal, or at least 50% of the household must self-identify as being Aboriginal. Other established Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing criteria applies.

TENANT PLACEMENT:
Applications will be drawn from the waiting list by date of application, but priority will be given to applicants based on established priority criteria.

CUMMINGS PROJECT FUNDERS:
Madawan Management and Development Inc. received First Nation, Inuit, Métis Urban & Rural (FIMUR) Funding from Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS), to construct 28 apartment units. OAHS is an organization funded by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
